Nissan Leaf at this year's TED Global Conference
TED was first held in 1984 as a conference to bring together people from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design. It is a non-profit organisation that is devoted to "Ideas Worth Spreading" and has become a "must attend" event for early adopters in worldwide industry and academia, including advocates of sustainability.
The Renault-Nissan Alliance is the automotive partner of the annual TEDGlobal conference, which will see nearly 1000 participants drive the Nissan LEAF around the streets of Edinburgh. The Nissan LEAF will be on display at Edinburgh's International Conference Centre during the TEDGlobal conference between 11th and 15th July 2011, with short test drives being available for conference delegates.
The ground breaking Nissan LEAF is powered by an electric motor and inverter which develops 80kW of power and 280Nm of torque delivered to the front wheels, allowing a top speed of 145km/h with a range of 157km.
Since its launch, over 9,500 Nissan LEAF models have been delivered in Japan. European sales are currently underway in Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands. Switzerland, France, Spain and Belgium are taking orders, with the first Nissan LEAFs expected to be delivered to customers shortly.
The Nissan LEAF like the Nissan Qashqai in Cardiff comes full of standard kit. Being an electric car many expected the LEAF to be thin on equipment levels; this is definitely not the case. Standard equipment in the LEAF includes air conditioning, satellite navigation, rear-view parking camera, quick charge socket and smart phone connectivity.
